For more than ten years now, it has been illegal in Sweden to conduct various types of research without previous approval from a regional ethical review board. This legislation, once more, put a spotlight on research ethics more generally and widely publicized cases of unethical research and scientific misconduct more specifically. In this course, we will cover the relationship between research and ethics in a wider sense, as well as the legal regulation of research ethics, including the rather complicated application process with the regional ethical review board. Course topics range from such concerns as ethics in theory and practice to secure management of research data and what an informed consent form must contain.
